Brandon Thompson’s Birth……
Brandon was born, Sunday, August 8, 2004 at 11:37 p.m.—what a CRAZY couple of hours it was!! We were at dinner at Scott and Carol’s and I just didn’t feel very good. The day before I had put on a big family BBQ at Black Canyon Dam for Tyler’s 1st Birthday—so I really just thought that I was tired. We ate and then started watching 24—we were totally into that series at the time!! I had a really bad stomach ache but I just thought I kinda was getting the flu. I never really had contractions with Tyler so I did not know what they were—guess that is what I was having at the time!! About 9:00 we headed home—Scott and Carol knew I did not feel well. We all were kinda of wondering if this was IT—I reassured everyone I could just go lay down for awhile and it would ALL go away---WRONG!!! I went home and put Tyler in bed and then laid down and Troy knew things were not right. At that point I was having pretty regular contractions—5 minutes apart. I kept telling Troy not to worry—that they would go away—he could tell I was in pain and that we should probably head to the hospital. He called my Mom and she rushed over to get Tyler. I had things packed so Troy threw everything in the car. I was having contractions hard at that point—I couldn’t even sit up—I had to be laying down. Scott and Carol came over in BIG RED and I laid down in their back seat and Troy followed us in the Mountaineer.
I was in PAIN and LABOR the ENTIRE way to Boise---UGH---NOT fun!! We had our cell phones—one with us and Troy had one behind us---we HAULED on the Emmett Highway!! Thanks Scotty!! I really thought that I was going to deliver this baby in Scott’s truck!! If he would not have been Breech---the Dr. said he would have been delivered in the car!! YIKES!!! On the way over Carol called the hospital and let them know I was coming and full on in labor!! We finally got to the hospital (long drive when you are in labor!) and they were there ready for us. As I got out—they had a wheel chair for me—I could barely sit down in it!! I did not have my shoes on and Carol was all trying to put my shoes on me, it was hilarious—Troy told her I probably wouldn’t need them—kinda a funny joke now!! Thanks Carol for watching out for me!!
Troy rushed me into the hospital and they wanted me to fill out a bunch of paperwork—I finally just looked at the lady and said—“Look, I am in labor—I will fill that out later---get me back there and get my doctor here!” They got me all prepped for surgery and a lady doctor came in—not MY DOCTOR—I kinda freaked!! I kepted asking where my doctor was---he was not on call unfortunately. I was not happy-I really wanted my doctor—oh well—things ended up fine. I delivered Brandon at 11:37 p.m. He was GORGEOUS and healthy!! It all happened pretty fast—remember we left Emmett at 9:30—two hours later he was here!! CRAZY!! He was sooooooo PERFECT and stinkin CUTE!! We went through the whole recovery thing from my surgery and headed up to my room. I was so exhausted, but too excited to sleep!! Just sat there and snuggled my CUTE newborn!! Everything was going great!! The second day, he began holding his little breath as he would sleep—they called it ‘sleep apnea.’ His oxygen level would drop. They did not let us go—they sent us to the Pediatrics floor to allow him to be watched. We stayed there an extra FOUR days---I was devastated!! I wanted to go home and take my baby and be with Tyler!! Tyler stayed with Mom and Dad and things worked out!! They put Brandon on caffeine to help maintain normal breathing. Troy and I stayed in a small hospital room—uncomfortable couch/bed—not handy after having a c-section—but we survived!! We were set to go home—but since he was 6 weeks early and only 5 pounds he had to take a car seat test to make sure he could breathe sufficiently laying in the car seat. He failed so he was allowed to go home in a car bed—it allowed him to lay completely flat!! He also came home on a monitor so it would go off when he stopped breathing!! I would just have to rub his feet and stimulate him to remind him to breathe again!! It was a long haul—staying there a week instead of 2 days like Tyler’s birth---but we made it!! We were sooo excited to bring Brandon home and become a HAPPY family again!!!
